After meeting Mike, the owner, and chatting awhile, we left our lovely B&B in Crested Butte for Basalt, CO. However, on the way, we stopped for lunch at Almont to eat lunch and quickly fish the Taylor River. 7 casts, one brown trout - easy as that?
After lunch, we traveled beautiful CO Highway 92 and decided to divert to the North Rim of the Black Canyon...breathtaking drive, lovely campground, opposite "Dragonwall" on the South canyon wall. A campfire and dinner of Thai Red Curry Bison, completed the evening.
Rained all night. Magical! In a cloud at the North Rim of the Black Canyon. Only 2-3 other visitors. Drive over MClure pass to Basalt in constant rain. Lunch and fishing at Anthracite Creek, caught one brown. Evening camp in Basalt on Roaring Fork River.
Rainy day again. The Roaring Fork River was high, blown out and muddy, but the Frying Pan River was Soo pretty and clear in the upper stretches. Caught a rainbow and a brown on Kastmaster lures, then headed for home - enough of the lightning and rain ⚡️☔️. We fished 6 rivers and caught trout on 5. Visited with friends, hiked Chaco Canyon and ate nice food. Life is good!
